Celebrating Christingle The Christingle service, held in more and more churches up and down the land, plays an important part in our celebrations at St Faith's As the picture gallery shows, it begins with the making of the Christingles themselves - an arcane rite involving power drills, oranges, candles, sweets, sticks and ribbon - a few days earlier. Before the 6.00 pm service, some of the servers are on parade with their fine new colourful cassocks, and the church fills with children and their parents. Revd Denise gathers the children before the nave altar to tell the Christmas story. In her tale animals feature strongly - and one sheep escapes to trot around the building! The climax is the giving of Christingles to the full, expectant church and the walk around the darkened church. Go to the Christmas pages |
